Stoke City News: Allen insists Swansea \'good team\'; Hughes thrilled with Butland

Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen was happy with victory over former club Swansea City last weekend.

Allen hopes it can be a platform heading into the festive period.

He said, “It was an important day for us to get a result. I wouldn't say at any cost, but it was an important game for us and for Swansea and thankfully we've come away with the three points.

“The first time I went back to Swansea and played against them (for Liverpool) it was pretty strange, but now it's standard procedure and you just have to get on with it.

“My focus is Stoke, but like any fan I keep my eye out for how they get on and they are a good team."

Meanwhile, Potters boss Mark Hughes is delighted with the current form of goalkeeper Jack Butland.

For victory over Swansea, Hughes, who admitted it was a risk to play Butland just three weeks after he broke his finger training with England, said: “He had worked all week and that was the important thing ,and obviously to protect it.

“It is healing as we speak, but it was protected. His glove had been customised to fit two fingers rather than the one.

“So he'd worked all week with that protection and felt really comfortable. It was a risk, but he was more than happy to put his hand up."
