Stoke News: Camp backed by Bowen; Shawcross defends Wimmer

Stoke City No2 Mark Bowen says there's no doubts recalling Lee Grant for Monday's clash with Brighton.

Grant steps up after Jack Butland broke a finger while with England.

Bowen said: “He's come in before and done very well for us and we are expecting him to do the same again.

“A couple of weeks ago Lee Grant, I daresay in his own mind, was feeling a little bit fed up and thinking it's going to be a long season.

“Things turn very quick and all of a sudden he's back in again and the one thing you know about Lee is that he trains like a Trojan out there.

“Even the last few weeks when he's been in the dressing room, he's one of the voices you'll hear at half-time if things aren't going so well.

“Even before the boss has started sitting the lads down to get his point across, Lee is one of the players you can hear in the background going round either encouraging or chastising players. It just goes to show the character he is."

Meanwhile, Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross insists Kevin Wimmer will prove his class.

Wimmer has had a tough start to life at Stoke following his £18m move from Tottenham in the summer.

“Kevin is different because he's not played as much football," Shawcross told The Sentinel, “but once we get him playing football like he did (against Watford and Leicester), then we've got a top player there.

“It's about getting as many games as he can this season and I'm sure he will prove to be a quality signing.

“They are very good players in themselves, but if I can help them I'll be delighted to.

“We are always working hard. We do a lot of work with (assistant manager) Mark Bowen on the defensive side of the game. It's all about clean sheets because they push you up the table.

“I'm always pleased with a clean sheet. We always have a target and if we hit that target you can usually predict where you're going to finish in the league."
