'Stop that nonsense' - Asamoah Gyan blasts GFA for Majeed Ashimeru Black Stars snub

Ghana all-time leading goalscorer, Asamoah Gyan has blasted the Ghana Football Association not including in-form midfielder Majeed Ashimeru in the 27-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs.

Ashimeru, who has featured 30 times and scored four goals for Anderlecht this season not left of the team for the two-legged tie against Nigeria on March 25 and 29 respectively.

Anderlecht have won more points with Ashimeru in the recent series of 16 out of 18.

Gyan has revealed his disappointment after the omission of the former WAFA midfielder who he believes he's better than the midfielders called-up with the exception of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.

"This guy @MajeedAshimeru is the best midfielder in Ghana,after @Thomaspartey22 PERIOD. I have kept quiet on this but this nonsense must stop. Smh," the former Sunderland striker posted on his Twitter.

Black Stars will host Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff on March 25 at the Baba Yara stadium, before travelling to Abuja for the return leg on March 29, 2022, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

This upcoming encounter is one that will be keenly watched by football fans in Accra and Abuja because of the known rivalry between the two countries.

The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December

The Super Eagles are seeking to qualify for the global showpiece a 7th time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions. The last of three appearances by Ghana was in 2014.
