French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are intensifying efforts to keep Ghana center back Alexander Djiku whose contract expired in June.

The club has made an improved offer to Djiku, surpassing the offer presented by Lille, footballghana.com can report.

While Besiktas have also expressed interest in the experienced defender, the potential arrival of Patrick Vieira as the new coach of Strasbourg may influence Djiku's decision to remain at the club.

The appointment of Vieira could present an exciting opportunity for Djiku to work under the guidance of the highly regarded coach.

Apart from Strasbourg, several other clubs have reportedly shown interest in acquiring Djiku's services, including Nottingham Forest and Mainz.

During the 2022/23 season, Djiku played a pivotal role in Strasbourg's successful battle for survival in Ligue 1.

He featured in 31 matches, demonstrating his defensive prowess while also contributing offensively with two goals and two assists.

However, Djiku was forced to miss Ghana's fifth-round qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations against Madagascar in June due to an injury.
