In March, the deadly disease made its way to Africa while it was declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Just like the other continents and the rest of the world, the Covid-19 pandemic did not only affect economies but also brought football and other sports to a standstill.

To ensure the safety of footballers, coaches, technical men, supporters, and all other stakeholders of football of CAF member associations one after the other announced the suspension of their various league seasons.

Subsequently, when the pandemic worsened, countries decided to totally cancel the football seasons with the others pushing the resumption to a later date.

Several months on, the Tanzania Premier League has become the first to commence a new season on the continent. Last weekend, the first round of matches were played with supporters allowed to watch from match centers.

On the Matchday, giants Simba SC recorded a 2-1 win against Ihefu while bitterest rivals Young Africans SC drew 1-1 against Tanzania Prisons.

The other big leagues such as the Egyptian League, the Tunisian league, the Moroccan league are still yet to complete the 2019/2020 season.

They are hoping to finish by the close of this month before building up to the next campaign.

With South Africa finishing up just last week, the teams are expected to enjoy short break before getting into the new season.

In Ghana, the football association has planned for the new season to start in October and are currently waiting on the government to lift the ban on football in the country.
