Head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton, says he has absolute confidence in the players that they will deliver.

The former Premier League has signed a 21-month deal as the new head trainer of the team.

Hughton played his first game against Angola in a back-to-back game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers last month.

The Black Stars recorded a 1-0 win in the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium before holding the Palancas Negras to a 1-1 drawn game in Luanda.

The former Brighton boss speaking in an interview said whiles serving as the technical advisor of the team, he saw a real desire from the players to win.

"I see the desire in this team because I have been fortunate to be around for a year now and particularly if you are not the head coach, it allows you to look at the overall and when Otto Addo was the head coach, he was specific about tactics, training and getting results and during that period, I saw a desire from the team," he told SuperSport.

"They want to win and it is a good thing I saw," he added.

Ghana will wrap up its Afcon qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic in June later this year.

Chris Hughton will hope to steer the side to end the country's 41 years Afcon trophyless jinx.
