The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has disclosed that he decided not to play Thomas Partey because he has a small injury issue.

Ghanaians were shocked on Monday, March 27, when the starting eleven of the Black Stars before the Angola game came out and Thomas Partey was not part of the team.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Coach Chris Hughton said he felt it would be a big risk to start Thomas Partey because he had some issues with injury.

“Thomas has a small injury issue & we felt it was too big of a risk to start him,” the new Black Stars head coach said.

In his absence, Ghana managed to hold Angola to a 1-1 draw in Luanda. Courtesy of the result, the Black Stars are still top of the Group E standings of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Ghana must now prepare for the next round of the qualifiers in either June or September.

In that round, the Black Stars will face their counterparts from the Central African Republic and Madagascar.
