Turning down England call-up was the personal decision of Hudson-Odoi – Chelsea boss reveals

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has revealed that winger Callum Hudson-Odoi decided on his own to turn down a recent England U-21 call-up.

The talented attacker last week told under-21 coach Lee Carsley that he wanted to stay away from international duty for a while to concentrate on his club career.

Although it was subsequently misjudged with reports claiming that Chelsea officials had a hand in the decision, manager Thomas Tuchel says it is far from the truth.

“It’s his personal decision and nothing to do with my opinion or the club’s,” Tuchel said at a presser ahead of the Liverpool game.

He playfully added, “If I speculate a little bit, I think it’s about disappointment that he is not nominated for the first team [with England].

“But at the same time maybe did not have enough minutes to be nominated for the first team.

“Personally, I could see the upgrade in having some minutes and being in a leading role for the Under-21s but he decided differently so he will deal with the consequences.”

Meanwhile, the decision by Hudson-Odoi on the call-up has given the indication that probably in the future he will consider playing for Ghana.
