It might not have (alright, definitely didn't) mattered in the grand scheme of things, but Wayne Rooney scored a bit of a belter against Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

The strike gave the much-maligned Manchester United striker/midfielder his first goal in almost three months, and social media erupted appropriately.

38 - Wayne Rooney has scored 38 European goals for Manchester United, equalling Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record. Strike.

Some weren't so kind...

Rooney's just scored with an overhit through ball.

Keep Rooney in the team indefinitely. In midfield. If Mou leaves, Man Utd gotta make Rooney player-manager in perpetuity.

That was Rooney's first club goal against anyone except Bournemouth since February 2.

That's the quickest decision I've seen Wayne Rooney make in the last nine months
