It might not have (alright, definitely didn't) mattered in the grand scheme of things, but Wayne Rooney scored a bit of a belter against Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

The strike gave the much-maligned Manchester United striker/midfielder his first goal in almost three months, and social media erupted appropriately.

38 - Wayne Rooney has scored 38 European goals for Manchester United, equalling Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record. Strike.

Some weren't so kind...

'Rooney makes things happen.'

He makes a thing happen, every few months. That was his first goal since August.

Wayne Rooney: Has scored his first goal for Manchester United since August (vs Bournemouth) #FENMUN

Rooney's just scored with an overhit through ball.

Keep Rooney in the team indefinitely. In midfield. If Mou leaves, Man Utd gotta make Rooney player-manager in perpetuity.

That was Rooney's first club goal against anyone except Bournemouth since February 2.

That's the quickest decision I've seen Wayne Rooney make in the last nine months
