UCL quarter-finals: Advantage City after thrashing Bayern at home, Inter beat Benfica away from home

The quarter-finals for this season’s UEFA Champions League has started this week with the first two matches being played on Tuesday night.

The most talked about fixture of the night today was the game between Manchester City and Bayern Munich at the Etihad.

With the English Premier League giants playing at home, the odds were certainly going to be in their favour.

Although Bayern Munich did play well, the visitors could not survive the genius of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

A golazo from midfielder Rodri for his first UEFA Champions League goal handed the hosts the lead to take into the first half break.

After recess, goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland sealed a fantastic 3-0 win for Manchester City to give the side a huge advantage to take into the second leg.

Elsewhere in Portugal, Benfica hosted Inter Milan and lost 2-0 at the end of a pulsating encounter.

A good display from the Italian Serie A defending champions mean that the team travels to Milan with a deserved advantage.
