US Salernitana shows interest in signing Ghanian striker, Felix Afena-Gyan

Felix Afena-Gyan, playing as a striker in AS Roma, is considering leaving the club for AS Salernitana.

After an uneventful first season at AS Roma, the club was not ready to guarantee the striker a consistent playing time in the coming season, especially since the player was on the bench for half the season.

Considering the 19-year-old is just starting his professional football career, Roma's offer will not benefit Felix‌.

His swift feet and speed make him an incredible striker who can play in various attack positions, making him a favourite among online bookmakers that give bet 5, get 30 betting offers.

Felix Afena-Gyan, born January 2033 in Sunyani, Ghana. Growing up as a young talent in rural Ghana, the youngster was approached by several football clubs but was all turned down by his mother, who wanted him to focus solely on his education.

According to her, patience combined with hard work ‌makes talent bloom and pay off. This patience eventually resulted in Felix playing for Roma a few years later.

He began playing football in  EuraAfrica FC, a football academy that persuaded his mother. At the academy, his swift feet and speed made him stand out. With strong ties with several European clubs, EuraAfrica could propel Felix into making his professional European debut with AS Roma.

He was loaned to the Roma U19 youth team on January 13, 2021. His time with EuraAfrica ended on June 30, 2021, and he signed his first professional contract with AS Roma on the 1st of July 2021, for €550,000.

He was upgraded from the youth team to the senior team and played against Napoli.

He then made his first professional football debut in a match against Cagliari on October 27, 2021. In a game against Genoa, Felix scored two last-minute goals to give Roma a resounding victory.

These two goals -which were the only goals scored in the match- made Felix the youngest player to score in Serie A.

His first season in Roma, ended with Felix making 22 appearances and scoring just two goals.

He also played a big part in pushing Roma into the final, which ended in the club winning the UEFA Europa Conference League.

In his debut season, Felix contributed to the team by playing as a flexible centre-forward, second striker and left-winger. He proves to be a team player, a big team player and an incredible asset. His time at the club was, however, relevantly uneventful.

He was mainly on the bench by coach José Mourinho, watching the action instead of being a part of the action. During his season at Roma, his talents were underutilised.

In the international scene, he is one of the major contributors to Ghana's successful entry into the AFCON 2023.

Felix scored his first international goal for Ghana in the qualifiers match against Madagascar for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and also made an assist which resulted in the first goal of the match.

He made his first debut for Ghana in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers match against Nigeria.

Conclusion

Roma's decision to lessen his playing time is not what the young player needs. He is at a stage in his career where he must build and develop himself into a world-class striker. Moving to the Italian Club, US Salernitana, might be the only way to prove himself. Although Salernitana has been around for a while, the football club was re-founded in 2011. The club recently returned to Serie A in 2021 after spending most of the past decades playing in the lesser levels of Italian football, Serie B and Serie C. US Salernitana cannot be classified as a big shot in the Italian football scene nor a successful club compared to AS Roma, who has won the Serie several times and played in the Champions League. However, a move to Salernitana may be the big break he needs to prove worthy enough to play with any top club in the big leagues.
