VIDEO: Former President Barack Obama Gets Twitter Invitation to Visit Bundesliga's Bottom Club

Published on: 14 February 2017

Not many would have expected there to be a connection with the Bundesliga's bottom club and the man, who until very recently was one of themost powerful people in the world.

However, that appears to be the case, as German side Darmstadt are bizarrelythe only European football (or soccer) team that Barack Obama follows on Twitter.

It's certainly an honour for the modestly sized club hailing from thestate of Hesse, so much so that they have now offered the former President the chance to visit their stadium, via their own

Given that Obama follows631,000 other accounts on the social media platform, it could be that he was simply browsing through one day and accidentally followed Darmstadt.

At the moment, however, the reason is unclear, and it could be that he's in actual fact a secret supporter of the club. Certainly a left-field choice if so.

The Bundesliga strugglers may be hoping that Obama can provide some of his trademark inspirational speeches if he does pay a visit, to help them climb off the summit of the table.

Having said that, with their 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmundlast weekend, they may not need him.
