The debutants took the lead on the 9th minute with what surely will be a contender for goal of the tournament courtesy a strike from Midfielder Ibrahim Samuel Amada.

The lead could however not last as Madagascar allowed their opponent to draw level ten minutes later. Talisman Cedric Bakambu headed home a beautiful cross from Ngonda Muzinga to restore parity for DR. Congo.

Madagascar upped their game in the second half and went on some promising counter-attacks. One finally paid off on the 77th minute when captain for the side Faneva Ima Andriatsima sent his header into the back of the net.

That goal was canceled out in the dying minutes of the match when former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba jumped highest to head home a corner kick.

The match remained 2-2 at the end of extra time and was forced into the penalty shootout. The debutant converted 4 of their kicks to emerge as winners over D.R Congo who only netted two of their kicks.
