Visa setbacks threaten Medeama vs DC United friendly as key members' applications declined

Published on: 10 October 2023

The American Embassy has denied visa applications for several members of Medeama SC, sparking concerns about their upcoming match against DC United scheduled for Saturday.

Originally, the Ghanaian champions were slated to depart for the United States on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, in preparation for their Capital City Africa Cup clash against DC United at the Audi Field in Washington DC.

However, Medeama now find themselves grappling with the challenge of finding alternative arrangements to address the visa setbacks and ensure their ability to honour the friendly match.

Out of the 19 players and officials who submitted visa requests, only 13 have secured the necessary approvals. Notably, CEO Joseph Tetteh Zutah, Physio Abdul Osman, Board Member Maxwell Boakye, Kojo Allah, James Essirifi, and Vice President Rose Linnet Osei are among those who have been denied entry into the United States.

These unforeseen visa rejections have put Medeama FC in a precarious position as they gear up to face DC United.

The absence of key team officials and board members could potentially have a significant impact on the team's preparedness and overall organization for the match.
