Warnock picks out Cardiff positives

Published on: 28 October 2018

Neil Warnock believes his Cardiff side are continuing to move in the right direction this season, despite Saturday's 4-1 loss at Liverpool.

The Bluebirds were no match for Jurgen Klopp's title hopes at Anfield as a Sadio Mane brace and further strikes from Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri secured the Reds a complete victory at Anfield.

Despite being outclassed at times, the Welsh outfit were able to score just their second away goal in their last seven Premier League matches, Calum Paterson grabbing a consolation in the second half.

The result leaves Cardiff in 17th after 10 matches with just one win to their name and Warnock's side are 4/11 to be relegated this season.

The former Leeds and Crystal Palace boss was keen to take the positives from the defeat at Liverpool, claiming there were "a lot of pluses" for his side, while also calling the 4-1 scoreline "harsh".

The game at Anfield brings to an end a difficult run of matches for the Premier League new boys, who have already had to face Manchester City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal in the early part of the campaign.

Warnock is now looking to put some points on the board in their upcoming fixtures with Leicester and Brighton.

"We have played the top six now, and I think we only have Manchester United in December," Warnock told Sky Sports. "We have had a tough run of fixtures really, but we have got better the last few weeks.

"The Burnley game we did well, the Tottenham game we did well, the Fulham game we did well - I am quite pleased.

"It is a pity we have a game like Liverpool after a good win over Fulham last week. It was like a free hit today against a team like Liverpool away from home. A lot of credit to the lads - they stuck at it."

Cardiff play Leicester next Saturday and are 13/5 to win the game, while the Foxes are 11/10 and the draw is 9/4.
