Watford have officially completed the signing of Newcastle and Dutch international full-back Daryl Janmaat in a deal believed to be worth around £7m. He has signed a four-year contract that will tie him to the club until 2020.

There were rumours earlier in the day that the former Feyenoord star, once briefly linked with Manchester United before joining the Magpies, had encountered problems in his medical.

But those fears were allayed after further reports indicate that he had indeed passed, and the announcement from Watford thensoon followed.

According to the Daily Mail, Napoli, West Ham and Crystal Palace had all made contact with Newcastle, but Watford were the club able to strike adeal in the end.

Having made his name in Dutch football, Janmaat joined Feyenoord in 2012 and rose to global prominence as an impressive member of the Netherlands team, managed by Louis van Gaal, that finished third at the 2014 World Cup.

Interestingly, he occupied a similar right-wing-back role in that Oranje side to the role he would like be expected to fill at Vicarage Road in Walter Mazzarri's new 3-5-2 system.

Janmaat played 69 times in the Premier League for Newcastle, although he was unable to prevent the club from succumbing to relegation to the Championship at the end of last season. He has also featured in two of Newcastle's four league games so far this season, starting both.
