Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club is in talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over the possibility of Thomas Partey joining the Black Stars for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 29-year-old midfielder has been out of action for the past two months after sustaining a hamstring injury ahead of their Champions League clash against Sevilla.

However, Partey has started gym and has returned to grass training this week.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder has been named in Ghana’s 55-man provisional squad for the tournament that has been slated to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

Discussing the possibility of Partey playing for his country, the Spaniard gaffer said there is a chance of playing at the tournament but no decision has been made.

“There is some talks between the clubs and federations. We haven't decided when is best,” he said of their home game against West Ham United.

Partey has already missed most of the season for the Gunners, only making five appearances so far this campaign.

There has been speculation he could move on in an upcoming window following Declan Rice's blockbuster arrival at Arsenal.

Partey is expected to join Ghana’s camp on December 31 in South Africa where the team will officially open camp.

Ghana have been housed in Group B alongside record-time champions, Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.

The Black Stars of Ghana will first come up against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024, then face Egypt at the same venue four days later and then Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22, 2024.

The 34th edition of the AFCON has been scheduled to kick off from January 13 to February 11.
