The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager has been criticised following Ghana’s goalless draw with Madagascar in Round 5 of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Speaking to Asempa FM, Abdul Salam Yakubu said it’s early to Judge Chris Hughton.

He pleads that the gaffer should be given some time and will do well with the national team.

“He is a coach that I believe has a lot of qualities. I have watched him coach in the English Premier League. Playing in Africa is different and requires a different philosophy that is why players like Inaki Williams come and struggle. It is the same for coaches.

“Let’s give him time. Things will fall in place,” Abdul Salam Yakubu said.

Since taking over as head coach of the Black Stars, Coach Chris Hughton has led Ghana to one win and two draws after three games.
