World Cup 2022: CAF lauds Ghana and other African teams' display in Qatar

Confederation of African Football (CAF) is delighted with the performance of all five African teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Morocco made history at the tournament by becoming the first African nation to qualify for the last four of the global showpiece, however they lost to the defending champions, France.

Senegal also reached the last 16 while Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon exited the group stage but put up an inspired performance.

Ghana defeated South Korea, Tunisia stunned France while Cameroon became the first African country to beat Brazil in a competitive game.

"It is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that an African nation has qualified for the semifinals."

"Our objective of ensuring that an African Nation wins the FIFA World Cup is alive and within reach," Motsepe said at a press briefing in Johannesburg.

"We are making significant progress in ensuring that African football is self-supporting and globally competitive.

"We will continue to use football as a tool to unite people from different races, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds and to contribute to improving the social-economic and living conditions of all people."
