World Cup 2022: Develop current Black Stars team for the future – Michael Osei to Ghana FA after mundial exit

Published on: 06 December 2022

Former Ghana international Michael Osei has urged the Ghana Football Association to develop the current Black Stars team for the future following their exit from the 2022 World Cup tournament.

The Black Stars were eliminated after the first round of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the last 16 stage.

But the team failed to negotiate for points against their ‘enemies’ Uruguay.

Ghana made a strong start to the game, but fell apart after captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute, a repeat of what happened in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“They did well but I said we should lower our expectations because this is a team that many of them before the world cup have not played any game for the National team before, so it will take time for the players to get know themselves”

“Cohesion everything will take a time but we also have a young team that we can develop them for the future. I know is sad but I was not so surprised

With our knowledge and experience in the game we know it can go that way too. Is really sad and painful” he told Footballghana.com

The Black Stars will now shift attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to begin in earnest.

The four-time African champions sit top of Group D with four points from the first two games of the qualifiers.
