World Cup 2022: It would be a great bonus to get something from Portugal game – Ghana captain Andre Ayew

Published on: 23 November 2022

The captain of the Ghana national team, Andre Ayew has noted that regardless of the result of the game against Portugal on Thursday, the Black Stars will still have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars will for the first time since the start of the world cup be in action tomorrow.

In what will be a Group H opener against Portugal, Ghana have not been given a chance of winning.

For Andre Ayew, whatever happens in the game will not be decisive because the team will still have six points to fight for.

He however adds that it will be great if the Black Stars earn at least a point from the Portugal game.

"When you are playing the first game of a tournament it is never the decisive one. Whatever happens, you still have a chance to go through.

"The first game is one where you can go for it and be brave. It would be a great bonus for us to get something (from the match),” Andre Ayew said at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

The clash between Ghana and Portugal will kick off at 16:00GMT tomorrow.
