World Cup 2022: Morocco coach Walid Regragui thanks fans for special atmosphere in win over Spain

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has praised fans for the special atmosphere created as they stunned Spain 3-0 in a shootout after a goalless draw to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

The two teams couldn't be separated after 120 minutes and Spain failed to convert any of their three penalties, with goalkeeper Bounou brilliantly saving two.

That left Hakimi to win it for the North Africans with his nerveless spot-kick and spark jubilant scenes in the stands at the Education City Stadium.

"We wanted to win in normal time, but we knew we had one of the best keepers in the world (Bono) and we were confident," Regragui said.

"We are a family and a team and we had great support."

Morocco are the last African side following the exit of African champions Senegal, Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon.

Coach Walid Regragui's side are also only remaining Arab team left in the tournament and will face Portugal in the quarterfinals in Qatar.
