World Cup 2022: Morocco offered absolutely nothing against Spain - Rodri

Published on: 07 December 2022

Spain midfielder Rodri has blasted Morocco's tactics in their round of 16 clash of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday.

The two teams couldn't be separated after 120 minutes and Spain failed to convert any of their three penalties, with goalkeeper Bounou brilliantly saving two.

That left Hakimi to win it for the North Africans with his nerveless spot-kick and spark jubilant scenes in the stands at the Education City Stadium.

"Morocco offered absolutely nothing. Without disrespecting them. In the game, they did nothing," Rodri said after the game.

"They just waited for the counters. They stayed behind and tried to counter us!"

Spain were also knocked out of Euro 2020 on penalties in the semifinals by Italy.

Morocco are the last African side following the exit of African champions Senegal, Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon.

Coach Walid Regragui's side are also only remaining Arab team left in the tournament and will face Portugal in the quarterfinals in Qatar.
