Portuguese midfield maestro, Bruno Fernandes says the entire national team is gutted after the defeat to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In a show of sportsmanship, the Manchester United star has congratulated Morocco for putting up a top performance to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

“It's hard to put into words all we felt yesterday once the game ended. Our dream fell apart when we did everything to make it end differently. It's sad and painful because representing our country means so much more than just playing football.

“Despite the elimination I am very proud to be Portuguese and even more so in all those who represented with me our country in this world cup.

“I would also like to congratulate the Moroccan national team for the great game and for qualifying to the semi-finals of the World Cup well deserved,” Bruno Fernandes said in a post on Facebook.

After advancing to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Morocco will now take on France.

That encounter is scheduled to kick off at 19:00GMT on Wednesday, December 14.
