South Korea captain Son Heung-Min was adjudged with the Man of the Match prize by the BBC in their opening World Cup fixture against Uruguay last Thursday.

The forward, who plies his trade for Tottenham Hotspurs put up a splendid performance in his sides 0-0 stalemate against the two-time World Cup winners.

The BBC announced the ratings of the participating players after the match between Korea and Uruguay, held at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

Per statistics from the BBC, Son Heung-min received the highest score with 7.88 points, followed by Kim Seung-gyu (Al-Shabab) with 7.46 points and Kim Moon-Hwan (Jeonbuk) with 7.34 points.

Despite FIFA selecting Real Madrid star Frederico Valverde as the man of the match, the BBC thinks Son Heung-Min deserves the accolade.

In Uruguay, Darwin Núñez (Liverpool) scored the highest with 6.85 points, while Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham) scored 6.48 points and Valverde scored 6.34 points.

Aside Son Heung-min, Kim Seung-gyu, and Kim Moon-Hwan, other players like Kim Jin-soo (Jeonbuk), Kim Min-jae (Napoli), Kim Young-kwon (Ulsan), and Hwang In-beom (Olympiacos) had rating above 7.

Assessing the performance of both teams, BBC said, “Korea led the first half, but Uruguay played a gradually dominant game, and at the end of the second half, Valverde’s shot hit the post, and it almost won.”

“In the first half, Korea took the lead in the game and showed good build-up soccer.” “Son Heung-min often showed isolation, but he penetrated the space and beat two defenders and raised a sharp cross.”

The BBC also predicted that with the draw on the day, "In Group H, Korea, Uruguay and Portugal will compete in the round of 16."

South Korea will take on Ghana in their second Group H game on Monday at the Education City stadium.

The 2016 European Champions, Portugal currently sit top of Group H with three points.

Meanwhile, the defeat means Ghana are bottom of Group H after Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw earlier on Thursday.
