In a historic feat for women's football, Yussif Basigi has become the first coach to lead both the Black Queens and Black Princesses to gold medal victories in major African tournaments.

The latest triumph came on Thursday evening at the packed Cape Coast Stadium, where Basigi's Black Princesses outplayed Nigeria in a thrilling encounter. The match ended 2-1 in favor of Ghana after extra time, securing the team's first gold medal at the 13th African Games.

This victory follows Basigi's success with the Black Queens in 2015. Ghana qualified for the African Games that year after defeating Zimbabwe with a 4–3 aggregate score in the final round of the qualifiers.

Under Basigi's guidance, the Black Queens went on to win the gold medal, thanks to a late 88th-minute goal from striker Portia Boakye that sealed a 1–0 victory against Cameroon.

Yussif Basigi was reappointed as the head coach of the Ghana Women's U-20 national team on 14 December 2022.
