Zinedine Zidane Warns Napoli Tie Isn't Over Despite Real Madrid's 3-1 Advantage

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was happy to see his side edge one step closer to the Champions League quarter finals after Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Napoli in the first leg of the opening knockout round. Equally, though, he has warned the tie is not yet over.

"We put in a great performance, possibly our best. We made a great start, the disappointment was the goal that we conceded," Zidane said as he addressed the media after the final whistle.

Lorenzo Insigne gave Napoli a surprise lead inside the first eight minutes, before goals from Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Casemiro turned the result on its head and put the tie strongly in Real's favour ahead of the return leg in Italy next month.

We recovered soon after going behind and got a goal and I'm happy with the result, we deserved this outcome," Zidane added.

"The scoreline doesn't matter, we now have to go there and go again. It'll be tough and we'll be made to dig in. The tie isn't over yet. We need to go there (to Napoli) and finish the job with this 3-1 advantage."

The main downside to the night came as Sergio Ramos prematurely left the field after an earlier injury. But Zidane insisted it was merely a precaution and that there is no serious problem.

"Ramos picked up a knock but as the game went on he recovered. In the end, I took him off because of the knock and the fact he was on a yellow, I didn't want to risk it. It was just a slight knock, nothing more," he explained.

Having lifted an 11th European Cup last season, Real are looking to become the first team to retain the title in the Champions League era (post-1992). Still no club has managed to win back-to-back European crowns since Milan in 1989 and 1990.
