Ghana forward Jordan Ayew convinced Jordan Amavi to join Marseille

Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has revealed he convinced former Aston Villa teammate Jordan Amavi to join Olympique Marseille.

Jordan Amavi joined Olympique Marseille on loan in the summer from Championship side Aston Villa.

The French left-back was one of the Villans' more valuable assets but a permanent move to Sevilla collapsed after the Spanish club claimed that he failed a medical - a claim which Villa owner Dr Tony Xia strongly denied.

In any case, Amavi, who fell behind Neil Taylor in the pecking order under Steve Bruce in the second half of last season, seemed keen to leave the West Midlands and Marseille offered him an escape route.

Speaking to SFR Sport, Swansea forward Jordan Ayew confirmed that he encouraged French left-back Jordan Amavi to join Marseille this summer.

“Amavi had told me about the options that he had, I told him to sign for Marseille. I was happy for him, because he is someone who deserves a good club, because he is a very good player.”

Jordan Ayew left Aston Villa in January to join Swansea where he has been on a good run of form. He has been a regular for the Welsh side this season.

The Black Stars forward he scored twice this season and helped Swansea to a 0-0 draw at Wembley on Sunday.
