Otto Addo was not ready; he was forced to take Ghana coaching job - Mohammed Polo

Former Ghana international, Mohammed Polo, has expressed his belief that Otto Addo was compelled to assume the role of head coach for the Black Stars, asserting that the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach is ill-prepared for the position.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) reinstated Otto Addo as the head coach of the senior national team in March 2024, subsequent to the dismissal of Chris Hughton post the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d'Ivoire.

Reportedly, Otto Addo was not among the initially shortlisted coaches for the role, but emerged as a late entry due to the GFA's preference for him over other applicants.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Mohammed Polo voiced his critique of the GFA's decision to re-appoint the 48-year-old as the coach of Ghana, questioning his suitability for the position.

“Otto was not even ready. He was been forced to take up the job. Those who are ready, give it to them,” Polo said.

“The guy came here and he told you point blank he has a job, and you said, 'Please, come and do the job,' as if we without him, nobody can do the job. What is this?

“He came, fine, and qualified us to the World Cup [in Qatar] with only two matches.”
