20/21 Ghana Premier League: Legon Cities FC beat WAFA SC 1-0 to record first win of the season

Legon Cities Football Club on Friday night defeated WAFA SC 1-0 to record their first win of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

The capital-based club in the past seven matches failed to score from open play, leading to a winless run that saw Serbian tactician Goran Barjaktarevic losing his job as head coach at some point of the season.

Going up against WAFA SC at the Accra Sports Stadium today on matchday eight of the ongoing season, Legon Cities FC put up a strong fight to break that unwanted record.

On the matchday, both teams excelled in the first half but could not find the back of the net at the end of the first half.

A minute into the second half, teenage attacker Mathew Anim Cudjoe was fouled in the WAFA SC 18-yard box resulting in a penalty kick.

With Joseph Adjei stepping up, he expertly converted to give Legon Cities FC the lead.

Although WAFA SC came in strong after going behind, they could not find the back of the net and suffered a narrow defeat at the end of the game.

Despite picking up the win, Legon Cities FC remains in danger of battling relegation zone and will need to keep working if they want to climb higher on the standings of the Ghana Premier League.
