2019/20 Ghana Premier League Match Week 7 Report: Kotoko 1-1 Liberty

Published on: 02 February 2020

Ghanaian giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been forced to share the spoils with Liberty Professionals this afternoon after the two sides played a 1-1 drawn game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a Match Week 7 fixture of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.

The encounter between the two clubs ended goalless at the end of the first half with both sides playing some fine football. The visitors started off well but allowed the home team to come in strong after the hour mark.

Though both sets of attackers got into dangerous positions, they could however not add the finishing touch.

In the second half, a well-organized Liberty Professionals side took the lead a minute after the hour mark. Attacker Tamimu Montari did some good work on the wings before firing in his effort from inside the 18-yard area of Asante Kotoko.

From there, the home team showed great promise in their play and even came close to scoring when Richard Arthur’s acrobatic effort hit the crossbar.

In the last 10 minutes of the match, constant attacking plays from the Reds paid off when new striker William Opoku Mensah took advantage of a miscommunication between the Liberty goalkeeper and a defender to head home his debut goal.
