2019/20 GPL Matchday 13 Report: Kotoko beat Karela Utd by a lone goal to go top of table

Published on: 06 March 2020

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings after posting a 1-0 win over Karela United at the Tarkwa Akoon Community Park today.

The two top-flight clubs locked horns earlier this afternoon to honour a Match Week 13 fixture in the ongoing 2019/2020 season. In a match that was expected to be tough for the Porcupine Warriors, they managed to get a positive result.

Coach Maxwell Konadu's side started off very well and took an early lead on the 2nd minute. Striker William Opoku Mensah was put through by winger Emmanuel Gyamfi and made no mistake as he buried the ball into the back of the net.

A first half of many chances eventually ended with just the one goal in it with the home team feeling very unlucky. It was more of the same in the second half but an impressive performance from Emmanuel Keyekeh attracted cheers from the Karela United supporters.

Though the Anyinase-based side played very well and caused problems in the attack of the reds, they were stopped in their tracks and had to succumb to a 1-0 defeat at the end of the 90 minutes.

In line with Kotoko's win, they have climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings.
