2019/20 league season should be cancelled - Ashgold defender Donkor

Ashanti Gold SC defender Eric Donkor has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to cancel the 2019/20 league season due to coronavirus pandemic.

All football leagues have been halted since mid-March as part of measures to help curb the spread of the disease.

The President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo recently extended the ban on sporting activities to July 31, however, the FA has set June 30 as the date they decide the future of the league.

"Before the 2019/20 was started, they (FA) planned to synchronize our league calendar with that of the Europeans. Looking at the situation now, the league should be cancelled," Donkor told OTEC FM.

"We’ve not been active for some months now and we need a lot of preseason or strengthen works to recover which can prevent us from injuries if the FA decides to continue in August.

He added, "Personally, I’m not sure we can continue the league. COVID-19 still exists and we need to put in measures before, how prepared as a nation if we decide to continue the league? Is a question we must ask ourselves."

The Premier League was at its match week 15 stage when it was halted with Aduana Stars leading the table with 28 points.
