2019 AFCON: Kenya set to pocket Ksh.7 Million for every win at tournament

The entire Harambee Stars team will earn at least KSh7 Million for every win they pick at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt next June, Football Kenya Federation boss Nick Mwendwa has disclosed.

In the event, that against all odds the team goes all the way to the final and wins the tournament, they stand a chance of collecting up to Sh120mn.

“We have had discussions with the coach and we will finalize with the players because this is what happens in other countries. We want to give the team everything they want to succeed in this tournament,” Mwendwa said.

This comes even as he said the government has approved a budgetary allocation of Sh244mn for the team, but noted it will go down to serve both the senior team and the Under-23’s preparing for their Olympic qualifier against Sudan to be played simultaneously with the Ghana match.

“We had presented a budget of Sh244mn for AFCON only but now the ministry told us that was all the money they were going to give us. We will use part of it to settle the pending bills from last year including allowances for Harambee Starlets,” Mwendwa said.

He added; “We are also using part of that money to prepare the Under-23 team for the Sudan qualifiers and we will have to squeeze the whole amount into all this and that is why we are out looking for sponsors,” he further added.

FKF on Tuesday unveiled a partnership worth Sh20 Million with betting firm Betin and Mwendwa says there will be two more deals to be unveiled before the end of the week.

The budget allocated by the government will be used for all the general preparations including a training camp in France for three weeks and basic allowances for the team during that entire duration. The winning bonuses have not been included in the budget
