2020/21 Ghana Premier League: I am making a case for experienced players - Gladson Awaku

Great Olympics captain, Gladson Awako has charged Ghanaian clubs to take a cue from his performance to welcome experienced players into their teams.

The U-20 World Cup winner has been sensational in the ongoing Ghana Premier League for the Wonder Club.

Clubs in the country have often shunned players who once tasted the league, dubbing them as “veterans”.

Awako, who joined Great Olympics as a free agent after leaving USLC side Phoenix Risings, believes he has made a case for the experienced players to have another bite at the Ghana Premier League.

“Sometimes, I think our clubs are making mistakes when they see players that have already tasted the league," h told Footballghana.com after their 1-0 win over WAFA on Sunday.

“They tag them “old men”, “veterans”, I think they should stop that.

“I think there are more players out there that feel they want to come and play the league again.

“I am an example and I have not done badly.

“So when they start saying “old men”, “veterans” it doesn’t sound well at all so I think they should stop that and allow other players to come,” Awako added.

Awako, 29, played his domestic career with Hearts of Lions before joining Berekum Chelsea where he played a key role in their 2010/11 Caf Champions League campaign after winning the GPL.

He went on loan to fellow Congolese club, Don Bosco and later signed for USLC side, Phoenix Risings after the expiration of his contract with Mazembe.
