2021/22 GHPL: Accra Lions appoint James Francis as caretaker coach

Ghana Premier League side, Accra Lions have appointed James Francis as their caretaker coach following the departure of head coach, Rainer Kraft.

German trainer Kraft has left his role as the head coach of the newly-promoted Premier League side, having established himself as one of the top coaches in the lower-tier league.

He managed to qualify Accra Lions to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in the club's history.

Although he has fared well in the ongoing Ghanaian top-flight league, Rainer Kraft has decided to leave his role with Accra.

"The Club can today announce that Rainer Kraft has left his role as Head Coach at Accra Lions," a club statement reads.

"Mr. Kraft has been relieved from his duties to return to Germany for personal reasons. He will continue to assist the club as a Consultant.

"Rainer Kraft had a very successful spell in his two years as Head Coach of Accra Lions Football Club that was crowned with winning the Division One Championship and gaining the Ghana Premier League promotion this year.

"We are very grateful for everything he has done to develop our club forward and wish him well for the future.“

"Assistant Coach James Francis will take over as Caretaker Coach with immediate effect.

Accra Lions are currently 11th on the Ghana Premier League standings after six games.

They will play as guests to Karela United on match week seven of the Ghana Premier League at the new Crossby Awuah Memorial Park in Anyinase.
