2022/23 Premier League matchday 1: Great Olympics v Bechem United preview

Published on: 09 September 2022

The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season has been scheduled to commence this weekend.

But for the Asante Kotoko’s involvement in the CAF Champions League, the first match of the new league season would have been played later this afternoon.

Following the rescheduling of that match involving the defending champions, eight matches are expected to come off on Saturday and Sunday.

Out of the two games that will be played on Sunday, Great Olympics will be hosting Bechem United in Accra.

The two teams already met three times in the off-season during pre-season. Two of the games ended in draws before Great Olympics defeated Bechem United 2-0 in the finals of the GHALCA G6 tournament.

Head-to-Head:

From the competitive meetings from last season, Bechem United have the edge over Great Olympics.

Last season, the Hunters drew against Olympics once and defeated the opponent in the reverse fixture by a narrow margin.

Subsequently, Bechem United finished third at the end of the season with Great Olympics finishing 5.

With good preparation for both teams in the off-season, all is set for what will be a tough but thrilling contest.

Predicted scoreline:

After several meetings in pre-season, this is a game that will be difficult for anyone to call. However, with Bechem United expected to fight to avoid a second consecutive defeat against the opponent in a matter of weeks, this should be a close one.

The footballghana team predicts a scoring 1-1 draw.

Player to Watch:

Great Olympics have announced the signing of Emmanuel Agyemang Badu this week. The experienced midfielder played a key role during the GHALCA G6 tournament.

He will be important for Olympics on the opening weekend of the league. He is in line to start in midfield to dictate the pace of the game for the hosts.

Match details:

The encounter between Great Olympics and Bechem United will be played on Saturday, September 10.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 15:00GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium.
