Ghana’s Black Stars have lost their top spot on the Group G standings of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a defeat to South Africa on Monday evening.

The West African country last Friday kick started its campaign in the African qualifiers for next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament scheduled to be staged in Qatar.

In a game against Ethiopia, Ghana fought and held on to win 1-0 at the end of the 90 minutes as the Black Stars jumped to the summit of the standings of Group G.

Today, the Stars were in Johannesburg for the second Group G game of the world cup qualifiers.

After an uninspiring performance, Ghana lost to the host by a lone goal scored in the final 10 minutes of the game.

As a result of the defeat, the Black Stars are no longer top of Group G of the Africa qualifiers.

The side has vacated the top spot with the Bafana Bafana now in control of Group G with four points.

Tomorrow, Ethiopia will host Zimbabwe in the final Group G qualifier of this international break.

If Zimbabwe wins, they will be on four points. On the other hand, a win for Ethiopia will see the side tying with Ghana on three points.
