2023 AFCON qualifier: It wasn’t an 'easy role'- Gideon Mensah on playing as a centre-back against Madagascar

Ghana left-back Gideon Mensah says it was not easy playing at centre-back in their 3-0 win over against Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but says he's ready to adapt to any position.

Mensah played a key role in helping the Black Stars keep a clean sheet at the Cape Cost stadium on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old partnered Daniel Amartey in the centre of defence with Denis Odoi and Baba Rahman deployed as the full-backs.

"It wasn’t an easy role but as a player, as a national team player you have to be ready and adjust to every position you have to play because at the end of the day we are here to serve Ghanaians," Mensah said after the game.

"Whichever way we have to serve Ghanaians, we have to do it. I had to do it and it went well."

The result means Ghana go top of Group E with a better goal difference after Angola defeated Central Africa Republic 2-1 in the group's other game earlier in the day with a better goal difference.

The Black Stars will travel to play the Central African Republic in four days' time while Madagascar hosts Angola in the group's other game.
