2023 U23 AFCON: 'Players were disappointed to concede two late goals against Congo' - Ibrahim Danlad

Published on: 26 June 2023

Black Meteors goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim says the players were not happy after letting in two sloppy goals against Congo in their Group A opener at the ongoing 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday.

As the team prepares to face the host nation, Morocco, in their second group game on Tuesday, June 27, Ibrahim addressed the media on Monday afternoon, discussing the challenges ahead.

Reflecting on the previous match, Danlad acknowledged the players' discontent with the defensive lapses that led to the conceded goals.

He emphasized that such occurrences were normal and attributed them to the lack of experience in high-pressure situations among many team members. Ibrahim also emphasized the consequences that can arise from losing concentration during a game.

“After the game against Congo, all the players were not happy because of what happened and it’s normal. A lot of us have not got this kind of experience. I know what can come when you lose concentration at some point in a game,” he said.

“With the technical team, they will just bring everyone on board and know how to go in the next game.”

The match against Morocco is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm.
