2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Ghana coach Otto Addo seeks victory in first competitive game against Mali

Ghana coach Otto Addo is eyeing a flying start to first competitive game of his second spell with the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars when they take on Mali this evening in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The four-time Africa champions will face the Eagles of Mali at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako at 7pm.

Having returned for a second stint with the national team, the former Talent development coach of Dortmund will be aiming for a strong start.

Otto Addo replaced Chris Hughton back in March following an unimpressive performance at the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, where the Elephant emerged as winners.

Although, he led the Black Stars in friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda in March, where the Ghana succumbed to a defeat to the Super Eagles before sharing spoils with the Cranes.

But his first competitive game on his return will be against Mali tonight and he will be seeking to start on a high note.

Meanwhile, Ghana is still in search of their first win in 2024, having endured a disappointing run of seven matches without a victory

The Black Stars last won game in November 2023, inflicting a narrow win against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Mali enters the match in strong form, having won two of their last three games. They are keen to maintain their momentum and solidify their position in Group I.

Ghana are currently fifth in Group I and cannot afford to drop points this time.
