AFCON 2019: Augustine Arhinful cautions Black Stars against complacency ahead of Benin clash

Published on: 25 June 2019

Coach Augustine Arhinful has urged the Black Stars to ensure they do not go into their match against Benin with complacency ahead of their opening match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Black Stars starts off their campaign in this year’s tournament when they take on the Squirrels at the Ismaily Stadium.

Ahead of the fixture, Augustine Arhinful who is a formal player for the Black Stars has noted that it will be key for the national team to remain focus and ensure they do not underrate any team.

“One good thing is that we are the one to play the last group matches and we have watched other teams play so that is an advantage to us. We have no excuse and must be ready for Benin. We should not be complacent. We should really have a strategy and system to win the game”, he said in an interview with New Mercury FM.

Arhinful continued, “The first point in the game is very important to us because our second game against Cameroon will be determined on the day.

“We should take a cue from what has happened in the tournament so far and advise ourselves”.

The Group F match will kick off at 20:00GMT.
