Ex-Black Stars striker, Augustine Arhinful has urged Ghanaians to support the national team throughout the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Having failed to win the prestigious tournament for the past 37 years, the stakes are high for the team to make another claim for the title this year when they make a representation in the continental showdown.
The last time the country won the tournament was way back in 1982 when it was hosted in Libya. This year they want to break the age-old jinx in hopes of lifting the trophy to restore their past glory.
Speaking in an interview with New Mercury FM ahead of Ghana’s Group F opener against the Squirrels of Benin, Augustine Arhinful has called on Ghanaians to offer unending support to the team to ensure the success of the team.
“We have to unite behind the flag because it is our identity. We need to rally behind the team. Sometimes is shocking to hear Ghanaians predicting doom for the national team when they are able to play”, the former Black Stars attacker said.
Ghana’s opening match in Group F will be played at 20:00GMT.
