AFCON 2019: Who Are The Bookies Favourites?

Published on: 24 June 2019

The African Cup of Nations is almost upon us and once again there are a handful of teams all having a great chance of lifting the trophy.

There are going to be some major stars touching town in Egypt looking to finish off their season in style. But which nation is going to win?

The bookmakers are of course having their say and for fans, it’s the perfect time to get your hands on some free bets no deposit offers from Freebets.com. Below you’ll find the bookmakers’ favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations 2019...

Egypt - 7/2

The hosts are the favourites to win the tournament having finished runners-up back in 2017 and having won a whopping seven tournaments in total.

They didn’t shame themselves in the World Cup last year and in Mo Salah they’ll undoubtedly have one of the tournament’s stars.

They should cruise through the Group Stage and will be well fancied from there-on in.

At 7/2 they’re well worth backing, and of course Salah will be a highly backed player for the tournament’s top scorer too.

Senegal - 9/2

Salah’s teammate Sadio Mane has perhaps had a better season than the Egyptian and will be full of confidence after some breathtaking performances in the Champions League.

Senegal have never won the AFCON but have an excellent chance this summer. The likes of Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly, who will sure up the defence considerably, will be instrumental and will have to be on top form for the country to win the tournament.

However, their form suggests that they will almost certainly be ready. At 9/2 they could well be the best value team to back. They have experience and many players are competing regularly in Europe’s top leagues. It’s looking good for them.

Ghana - 7/1

Ghana are part of a difficult group, with Cameroon also part of it, but they should have enough to get through to the knockout stage, where they’ll look to lift the title for the first time since 1982.

In the Ayews they have quality and experience, while Christian Atsu will also be keen to prove his worth for the nation.

At 7/1 they’re a little more of a long shot, but Ghana have proven to be a strong nation down the years and they’re one of the most experienced in the tournament.

Nigeria - 9/1

Nigeria proved a difficult team at the World Cup, narrowly missing out on a momentous result against Argentina.

They’ll be keen to take that form into AFCON 2019 and are a 9/1 shot to lift the trophy. They won the tournament six years ago and with the likes of Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho they have a fantastic chance of doing well.

Their Group should cause them no issues, with Madagascar, Burundi and Guinea in it, with the latter the team most likely to run them closest.

Into the knockouts and they have every chance. Where they may fail is not having a player who just has that little bit of magic, like Egypt and Senegal.
