BBC pundit Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian helped his team to a 6-1 win over Watford last Sunday.

Firmino grabbed the Reds' fourth goal of the afternoon and played a role in several others, as Liverpool went a point clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Brazilian has been in great form all season having scored six goals in all competitions so far. Whilst several of Liverpool's players shone in the win over Watford, Alan Shearer picked out Firmino's performance as his personal favourite.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day programme (as quoted by theStar), he said:"It surprised me he (Firmino)played as an out-and-out centre-forward.

"The front three seem to have a freedom to go anywhere - to end up on the left or the right - but he was more central.

"And he was an absolute nightmare for that defence. We could have highlighted Coutinho, Mane or Adam Lallana but I want to talk about Firmino.

The former Newcastle forward then highlighted Firmino's change in positionagainst the Hornets. The Brazilianplayed a central attacking role, despite impressing in other areas of the pitch this season.

And Shearer believes the switch by manager Jurgen Klopp paid off.

He added:"It was a more orthodox centre-forward role that Firmino played and everything about his play was excellent. He held it up, he was quick, he wanted to run behind and he linked up play superbly. He was finding himself in goalscoring positions and getting into the areas.

"Everything you want from your centre-forward he was able to do. They just could not cope with him.

"Liverpool were breath-taking going forward once again."
