Albanian sports doctor Mel Ostreni has criticized the decision to allow Raphael Dwamena to play, deeming it "careless."
The Ghanaian striker tragically passed away during a match between KF Egnatia and KF Partizani in the Albanian Superliga on November 11th.
Speaking to Report TV sports doctor Mel Ostreni also raised alarm about the lack of defibrillators in stadiums.
According to Ostren, this is not the first case of loss of life in sports, recalling the former football player of Vllaznia in the 1980s, Suad Duraj.
"It is the carelessness or genius mind of the footballer, that there were no problems here with the regulation. He could play in the most famous championships in Europe because he had quality, but he was aware of the problem he would open and here he was accepted. Medical checks in Albania leave much to be desired. There is nothing like this in Albania, for detailed heart checks. We need a regulation for this work," he said.
"The AFL has the sole responsibility to dot the i's now. With what happened today, which was dramatic, a camera costs only 800 euros. The presidents of the teams don't listen to me, I was at Kukësi for five years and they didn't care that I raised it even higher in the AFL. We need a defibrillator," Ostreni added.
