Arsenal back in race for Partey, aiming to activate release clause

Published on: 08 August 2020

Arsenal have returned to continue negotiations with Atletico Madrid for Thomas Partey,  reports in Spain have indicated.

The Gunners initially offered a player plus cash deal to the Spanish side which they rejected without hesitation. They want the player's 50 million euro release clause paid in full.

Arsenal are not downcast by the previous setback and are working towards providing the needed funds to trigger the release clause. After that is done, the move will depend on the player's willingness.

It has been widely reported that Mikel Arteta is fond of the player and wants him to be part of his side for next season.

Arsenal are close to securing deals for Willian and Coutinho. They will look to add Partey to their list of completed signings once the former two are out of the way.
