Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been linked with a surprise move to Fenerbahce after reports from Turkish media companyHurriyet, claimed that the German had a quick meeting with club officials during a recent visit to Istanbul.

The midfielder is understood to be in talks over signing an extension to his current deal in north London, but has so far been reluctant to commit with manager Arsene Wenger's uncertain future one of the key factors behind the delay.

Ozil has openly admitted to being fond of Turkish side Fenerbahce and hinted in the summer that he would one-day like to play for the club.

He said: "In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt. It would be an honour. Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan."

Whilst the 28-year-old was born and bred in Germany, he does have family ties with Turkey which explains why he is a fan of the 19-time winners of the Turkish Super Lig.

It has been reported that Ozil met with several of the club's officials when making a short trip to Turkey, although very few details of what was discussed at the meeting have been revealed.

It's unlikely that the German will be seeking a move to the Istanbul based club anytime soon though, as his comments from the summer suggested that it is something he would like to do later on in his career.

After several impressive seasons in the Premier League with Arsenal, Ozil is at the peak of his powers and will be keen to continue playing for a top European club for a few more years at least.
