Asamoah Gyan elated to join Legon Cities ahead of new season

Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan is elated to join Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities on the transfer deadline day.

Gyan, who is the top goalscorer in Black Stars' history with 51 goals, penned a one-year deal with the club on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old makes a return to the Ghanaian top-flight, 17 years after leaving Liberty Professionals..

"Here we go. I’m back home to continue my career with Legon Cities," he wrote on Twitter.

"I’m happy to join this club because they have a future plan for Ghana football. Don’t blink when the season starts. Follow my new club for every detail of the club. Thanks for your support."

The former Sunderland striker scored 10 goals in 16 games before he left Liberty in 2003. Since then, he has scored 168 goals for nine clubs.

He has scored more goals (6) than any African in the history of the World Cup.
