Ashgold beat Rahimo FC 1-0 in pre-season friendly ahead of CAF confederations cup campaign

Ghana Premier League side, Obuasi Ashanti Gold intensified their preparations ahead of their participation in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Burkinabe side Rahimo FC in a pre-season friendly at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Miners secured a spot in the upcoming inter-club competition on the continent after beating Nzema Kotoko in the finals of the tier 2 of the GFA Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition.

They have stepped up preparations for what will be a challenging 2019/2020 and decided to engage Rahimo Fc who has also secured qualification for the upcoming CAF Champions League.

The friendly encounter saw new manager of Ashgold Ricardo da Rocha taking charge of his first match at the club.

He managed to put up a side that competed at the highest level throughout the entire 90 minutes. After a pulsating match in the early minutes of the first half, potent attacker Mark Agyekum shot the Obuasi based side in front with a fine goal.

Despite an entertaining match in the second half that saw both sides creating many chances, there were no other goals as the match ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.

Ashgold new signings Kwadwo Amoako and David Abagna Sandan were given starts whiles Brazilian midfielder Marco Aurelio Silva, together with Benjamin Eshun, Razak Simpson, Stephen Owusu, and Evans Obeng were introduced in the second half.

Ashanti Gold SC is expected to play Equatorial Guinea side Akonangui FC in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
